Good Luck with That
03:41

|

They told me, “These songs all sound the same. Can you hear it?
That same old, tired refrain—can you hear it?”
And I think, “Do I have it in me?”
‘cause I don’t think I’m witty enough
to write something you would listen to.
(Whoa) It’s bad ‘cause it’s better; it’s bad ‘cause it’s back.
(Whoa) They get something new; they don’t know how to react.
(Whoa) We’ll try to give it the best we have,
but if perfect’s what they need, good luck with that.
They told her, “Hey, girl, you look all wrong. Can you see it?
Too dark, too thin, too tall. Can you see it?”
And she thinks, “Do I have it in me?”
'cause she don't think she's pretty enough
to be the face they put up on the screen.
(Whoa) It’s bad ‘cause it’s better; it’s bad ‘cause it’s back.
(Whoa) They get something new; they don’t know how to react.
(Whoa) We’ll try to give it the best we have,
but if perfect’s what they need, good luck with that.
Don’t make a sound.
They’ll come around.
And they will find
that the ones who they just paid no mind
were just who they’ve been needing all this time.
If they say, “You just don’t have the stuff,” go and get it.
Keep them in mind and make them regret it.
(Whoa) It’s bad ‘cause it’s better; it’s bad ‘cause it’s back.
(Whoa) They get something new; they don’t know how to react.
(Whoa) We’ll try to give it the best we have,
but if perfect’s what they need, good luck with that.
If perfect’s what they need, good luck with that.

King of Hearts
04:50
|
|
||
Once upon a time, there was a man
whose name was known throughout the land
as the "King of Hearts”—a name he earned
for all the poor girls’ hearts he burned.
With just a smile and wicked words,
he could win the love of any girl.
He would be her world, ‘til he was done
and he left that girl for a different one.
One day, a girl of sterner stuff
decided she had had enough.
To make sure he caused no more pain,
she would beat the King at his own game.
She said, “I know, I know, I know I’ve got a lot to do,
but I know, I know, I know I’ll make sure everything works through.”
Let the trumpets sound. Let the kingdom know
that the King of Hearts will be dethroned.
So, she met him at a party.
He was going "hardy har" with his buds at the bar,
trying real hard to look sharp.
He had a way with words. She admired his book smarts.
He tapped her on the back, said, "I love how you look. Are
you seeing anyone?"
She said, "No."
He said, "Great. I'll pick you up tomorrow night at eight."
"It's a date."
And with a couple days and a smattering of flattering phrases,
they were off to the races.
He’d be bringing her flowers, and they’d be talking for hours,
and all throughout the planet, there was not a single force or power
that could keep them separated, which is why the girl was hated.
The other ladies were livid. They did not appreciate it.
The King played right into her hand,
but there was one thing she had not planned.
Her worst mistake, her greatest sin:
she slowly fell in love with him.
She said, “I know, I know, I know that there are hearts at stake,
but I know, I know, I know that these are feelings I can’t shake.”
Let the trumpets sound. Let the kingdom know
that the King of Hearts must be dethroned.
For a while, it seemed the King would keep on
breaking hearts just like before
‘til the women of the kingdom showed up
knocking at the girl’s front door.
They said, “Don’t quit. Your cause is true.
Now get the King, before he gets you.”
So, she found a man with charm and grace,
and called the King down to her place.
The King could not believe his eyes.
The girl was with a different guy.
He felt the weight of all his deeds.
And so, the King fell to his knees.
He said, “I know, I know, I know of all the wrong I’ve done.
Now I’ll never, ever, ever break another heart for fun.”
Let the trumpets sound. Let the kingdom know
that the King of Hearts has been dethroned.
She said, “I know, I know, I know the battle has been won.
It’s a coup d’etat they’ll sing about for centuries to come.”
Let the trumpets sound. Let the kingdom know
that the King of Hearts has been dethroned—
that the Queen of Hearts is on her throne.
Once upon a time, there was a girl
whose name was known throughout the world
as the Queen of Hearts—a name she earned
from all the poor guys’ hearts she burned.

Small
03:06
|
|
||
I think that we have a chance,
but there are things we should know.
The two of us are new to this.
If we want to see this through, then it’s
important that we take things slow.
We’ll have our good days and bad.
We’ll have our tantrums and fights.
But, darling, when the day is through,
as long as I’m still next to you,
I swear we'll make it through the night.
One day, we’ll be bigger than we are right now.
One day, we will run, but first we’ll crawl.
We’re the birth of something beautiful.
We’ll grow and show the world who we are.
But for now, we can start out small.
At first, we’ll struggle to speak,
and we won’t know what to say.
We’ll babble first, then form some words,
then sentences from nouns and verbs,
then a language of our own someday.
One day, we’ll be better than we are right now.
One day, we will run, but first we’ll crawl.
We’re the birth of something beautiful.
We’ll grow and show the world who we are.
But for now, we can start out small.
Even if we don’t quite last forever,
if the final note of our song is sung,
if our last names aren't the same
when our hairs have gone all gray,
I will still look back on when our love was young.
One day, we’ll be more than what we are right now.
One day, we will run, but first we’ll crawl.
We’re the birth of something beautiful.
We’ll grow and show the world who we are.
But for now, we can start out small.

Monster in Your Bed
02:27
|
|
||
Don’t let this pair of fangs and pale complexion fool you.
Don’t let my sunken eyes and my hunchback get to you.
I’m not out for blood.
Yeah, I’m just looking for love.
You’re the finest thing I’ve ever lain my artificial eyes on.
Oh, please don’t scream and hide. Let’s give this thing a trial run.
I’m not out for blood.
Yeah, I’m just looking for love.
Just looking for love.
I want you to wait, and I’ll show you my world.
Don’t be afraid of what you just don’t know.
Give me just one chance at true romance.
I wanna be—I guess I’ll never be—the monster in your bed.
The monster in your bed.
I know there’s lots of ways that you and I could go wrong,
but please don’t turn me down and make this one a sad song.
I’m not out for blood.
Yeah, I’m just looking for love.
Just looking for love.
I want you to wait, and I’ll show you my world.
Don’t be afraid of what you just don’t know.
Give me just one chance at true romance.
I wanna be—I guess I’ll never be…
I want you to wait, and I’ll show you my world.
Don’t be afraid of what you just don’t know.
Give me just one chance. May I have this dance?
I wanna be—I guess I’ll never be—the monster in your bed.
The monster in your bed.

Lifeboat
05:29
|
|
||
I thought I had a plan.
I thought that my voyage would just need one man.
I was wrong.
I was wrong.
Still, I set sail.
The wind and the waves made a pact so I would fail.
I'm almost gone.
Almost gone.
I need a lifeboat
and someone to take control.
I'm letting go of all my pride
because I won't survive this tide
all on my own.
I need a lifeboat,
and I don't know where to go.
I'm sev'ral hundred miles from shore.
This ship will hit the ocean floor.
Who would have known
that I'd need a lifeboat?
I should shut my mouth.
I don't know port from starboard or even north from south.
I'm a fraud.
Such a fraud.
This ache in my skull.
Two matching holes in my heart and in my hull.
Oh, dear God.
Oh, dear God.
I need a lifeboat
and someone to take control.
I'm letting go of all my pride
because I won't survive this tide
all on my own.
I need a lifeboat,
and I don't know where to go.
I'm sev'ral hundred miles from shore.
This ship will hit the ocean floor.
Who would have known
that I'd need a lifeboat?
Mayday, mayday, mayday.
Mayday, mayday, mayday.
Time to fire all my flares.
Sometimes it feels like no one cares.
Don't know how I got this far.
I gotta find my guiding star.
A minute turns into an hour later.
I'm lost without a crew or navigator.
Who would have known
I need a lifeboat
and someone to take control.
I'm letting go of all my pride
because I won't survive this tide
all on my own.
I need a lifeboat,
and I don't know where to go.
I'm sev'ral hundred miles from shore.
This ship will hit the ocean floor.
Who would have known
that I'd need a lifeboat?

The Light
02:57
|
|
||
Leave the light on when you go
so I can find where my heart landed when you threw it on the floor.
Leave the light on when you go, go, go.
Leave the light on when you go.
Leave a toolbox when you split
for the girl who’ll find my soul and try to reassemble it.
Leave the light on when you go, go, go.
Leave the light on when you go.
‘Cause I'll miss watching shooting stars
while shooting off our hopes and dreams.
I'll miss late-night Buffy marathons
as we slayed life's scary things.
I'll miss dancing by the kitchen sink and kissing you goodnight.
I’m not all right.
At least I have the light.
Leave your consolations at the door
‘cause I doubt you’ll find a new one, girl. I’ve heard them all before.
Leave the light on when you go, go, go.
Leave the light on when you go.
Leave a matchbox over there
so I can burn the things I gave you even though you didn’t care.
Leave the light on when you go, go, go.
Leave the light on when you go.
‘Cause I hate driving out to nowhere
every time you drive me mad.
I hate fighting back the thought
of all the fights you made us have.
I hate watching you be loose when I just want to hold you tight,
but I’ll be all right.
Yeah, I don’t need the light.
Don’t leave anything at all.
It’s not goodbye; this is good riddance.
After all this time, I’m finally standing tall,
but leave the light on when you go, go, go.
Leave the light on when you go.
Leave the light on when you go
‘cause now my life is so much brighter ‘cause you’re not in it anymore.
Leave the light on when you go, go, go.
Leave the light on when you go.

Levitate
04:51
|
|
||
I wish I could levitate, could levitate above this life, oh.
I just want to levitate, to levitate above this life.
The world’s bleeding constantly.
No surgery
can stop this nightmare.
I look for the tunnel’s end
around the bend.
Is there a light there?
There’s not much left here for me.
but apathy
and sleepless nights so
I’ll go spaceward into dreams.
Don’t cry for me.
I’ll be alright.
I wish I could levitate, could levitate above this life, oh.
I just want to levitate, to levitate above this life.
If my friends and family
start missing me—
oh, if they worry—
I’ll smile wide from up above.
I’ll send my love
and hope they heard me.
I’ve got just one heart to give
one life to live,
and once it’s gone, then
on that day, my brittle bones
are going home.
Yeah, I’ll move on
and gravity won’t know the half of me.
I wish I could levitate, could levitate above this life, oh.
I just want to levitate, to levitate above this life.
I never thought life would be easy, and I wanted to be strong.
But, it turns out doing this alone was crazy after all.
So I’ll turn towards your face and once I leave the human race,
then I will levitate above this life with grace.
I wish I could levitate, could levitate above this life, oh.
I just want to levitate, to levitate above this life.
I wish I could levitate, could levitate above this life, oh.
I just want to levitate, to levitate above this life.
And gravity won’t know the half of me.
And can you hear it? Something’s calling me.
And gravity won’t know the half of me.
And gravity won’t know the half of me.
